WHO ARE THE BRETHREN?
THE BRETHREN ARE ALL ABOUT THE PERSON OF JESUS CHRIST!
You may have often wondered about the multitude of church denominations and what makes one different from another. When you visit the Moler Avenue Church of the Brethren you will soon learn that the Brethren not only have some distinct differences from all other churches but above all, they place great emphasis on the Person of Jesus Christ.
Brethren accept Christ’s Saviorhood.
Brethren believe that God sent His only Son into the world, because of His love for humankind. They believe Jesus was the sinless Son of God who was crucified for our sins but was raised from the dead by the power of God. Brethren believe He is now with the Father God in heaven and extends forgiveness of sin and eternal life to all who will place their faith in Him. Brethren are people who have come to a personal faith in Christ as their Savior. They symbolize this faith relationship with God in a unique service of water baptism by trine immersion in the name of each person of the Holy Trinity; Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
Brethren unite with Christ’s Brotherhood.
Believing that involvement with a local church is of vital importance to their Christianity, the Brethren have always placed great emphasis on the local church since there inception in Germany in 1708. They believe that fellowship and involvement with other believers is a vital part of God’s plan for His people. The Moler Avenue Congregation is not simply an organization, club or business. It is a family of brothers and sisters united around the Person of Jesus Christ. You will find the Moler Avenue Congregation to consist of friendly, loving people.
Brethren follow Christ’s Servanthood.
On the night before He would go to the cross and die for our sins, Jesus met with His followers for an evening supper. At one point He stood up, stooped down and washed their feet. He then told them they were to follow His example.
The Brethren seek to follow His example by serving others in any way possible. Whatever the human need, Brethren feel compelled to serve others and help meet that need.
The Brethren not only serve one another and the community literally, they symbolically celebrate Christ’s call to serve twice a year in an unusual service called a ”Love Feast.” In this service, they symbolically wash one another’s feet, share a simple fellowship meal and partake of bread and grape juice to symbolize their faith participation and dependence on Christ’s broken body and shed blood. This service is a powerful reminder to them of Christ’s call to serve Him, love one another and depend upon Him daily for spiritual and material needs.

Brethren enter Christ’s Neighborhood -- The world locally and beyond.
Christ’s neighborhood is the entire world. “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believers in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” (John 3:16 New International Version) The Brethren do not believe they should keep their faith to themselves but know they have been ordained by Christ to go everywhere and share the Good News with everyone, inviting them to place their faith in Him, follow Him in a life of loving, obedient service and become a part of God’s family.
